WNKR stands for "Northern Kentucky Radio" and was founded in 1992 by local investors who believed that Northern Kentucky needed a radio station dedicated to its interests. We recognized that Northern Kentucky was a growing area of residents whose needs and tastes were not being catered to by existing outlets. In WNKR, there was finally a station dedicated to serving those needs.

Now, as then, WNKR remains independently owned by Grant County Broadcasters, Incorporated. WNKR is our only broadcast interest, which means that the station receives our full attention at all times. We are committed to providing superior FM service to Northern Kentucky from the southern end of the Cincinnati Metro.
